Governmental efforts to increase the energy efficiency of homes must be expanded, according to Friends of the Earth.
In news that may be of interest those looking to purchase Scottish property, the environment group is calling for the establishment of a programme of low-carbon home zones across the UK to ensure that households in fuel poverty are given super insulation and low carbon energy.
Low-carbon homes campaigner for the organisation Ed Matthew comments: "Not only have the most vulnerable in society not been protected, a key opportunity to reduce the UK’s household carbon emissions has been lost."
He adds that capping the bills of those in fuel poverty is not an adequate solution and that the only permanent answer is a high level of energy efficiency.
